HHS Department Organization

Now let's discuss the organization within each of the five agencies. The agencies are organized to be as consistent as possible. The result is that it's easier for HHS employees and the public to locate agency resources.

Each agency is headed by a Commissioner and is generally divided into support and programmatic divisions. The support divisions handle administrative functions. The programmatic divisions, headed by Assistant Commissioners, are responsible for the actual delivery of programs and services.
