Hank’s mother was able to purchase school clothes and supplies with help from the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program. TANF provides financial and medical assistance to needy dependent children and the parents or relatives with whom they are living. Eligible TANF households receive monthly cash and Medicaid benefits.

Martha found a safe haven through the Family Violence Program. This program provides temporary shelter and nonresident services for victims of family violence and their children through contracts with family violence centers located throughout Texas.

HHSC is responsible for statewide oversight of the Texas Medicaid Program. Medicaid is the state and federal cooperative venture that provides medical coverage to eligible needy people.
