Program/Service Spotlight: DSHS

Projects for Assistance in Transition from Homelessness (PATH) funds community-based outreach, mental health, substance abuse, case management, support services and limited housing services for people who are homeless and have serious mental illnesses.

Jenny is going to get a diphtheria and tetanus vaccine through the Texas Vaccines For Children (TVFC) campaign. TVFC is a program for improving vaccine availability by providing vaccines free of charge to eligible children through public and private providers statewide. It is one of the public health programs operated by DSHS.

Substance abuse services provides a full continuum of comprehensive chemical dependency treatment services. Drug abuse and addiction are treated in specialized treatment facilities and mental health clinics by a variety of providers, including certified drug abuse counselors, physicians, psychologists, nurses, and social workers. Treatment is delivered in outpatient, inpatient, and residential settings.
