Jobs Spotlight: DSHS

male DSHS employee labeled “Title: Epidemiologist; Agency: DSHS, Infectious Disease Epidemiology and Surveillance Group”

What I Do

I'm an epidemiologist working in the Infectious Disease Epidemiology and Surveillance Group. My main duties involve the surveillance for the zoonotic diseases. Zoonotic diseases are those conditions that are transmissible from animals to humans. For the past three years, the major part of my job has been to serve as the Texas West Nile surveillance coordinator. I am also the state coordinator for the annual Southwest Conference on Diseases in Nature Transmissible to Man.
